What Documents Are Valid for Work Eligibility?

Discover which documents you can use to verify your work eligibility.

NOTE: Note that all the documents must meet the following criteria:

  • Not be expired.

  • Contains the Spotter’s full legal name.

  • Date of birth must not be expired.

  1. For Canadian Spotters

    1. Documents that can be used to determine work eligibility:

      1. Work Permit: Must meet the additional following criteria:

        1. Must not be a closed work permit.

      2. Study Permit: Must meet the additional following criteria:

        1. Explicitly allow the Spotter to work off-campus.

      3. Canadian Passport

      4. Canadian SIN Card: Must meet the additional following criteria:

        1. If the SIN begins with the number “9,” it cannot be used as a work eligibility document. Please submit one of the other eligible documents listed above.

      5. Permanent Resident (PR) Card

  2. For U.S. Workers

    1. Documents that can be used to determine work eligibility:

      1. U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card

      2. Form I-551: Commonly called a Green Card

      3. Foreign Passport with Temporary I-551 (ADIT) Stamp or MRIV Notation:

        Must include a temporary I-551 stamp or notation on a machine-readable immigrant visa (MRIV).

      4. Employment Authorization Document (EAD): Valid for employment authorization in the U.S.

      5. Social Security Account Number (SSN) Card: Acceptable unless the card includes any of the following restrictions:

        • “NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT.”

        • “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH INS AUTHORIZATION.”

        • “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION.”
