If a worker arrives for a shift without being approved through the Spotwork platform, the company must either turn the worker or add them to the shift through the platform before they start working.
If the worker cannot be located on the platform and added to the shift, the company must refuse to let the spotter begin.
Should the company allow an unapproved worker to work, they will be responsible for insurance coverage if the worker gets injured during the shift.
If a worker shows up for a shift they are not approved for and begins working without informing anyone, they will be disabled and removed from the platform.
The worker needs to be approved through Spotwork to ensure they can get paid and ensure they are complying to Spotwork policies and procedures.
Why is this policy important?
Unauthorized workers have arrived on site without being hired for a shift. Companies have used these workers and subsequently sent emails with their names and hours worked after the shift to arrange payment. Additionally, companies have called in workers and then provided their names and hours worked afterwards for payment and setup.
This practice has led to several issues:

Workers prefer working for companies that pay them on time through the platform as advertised, and we’ve observed that companies who comply with this process have a higher fill rate.
It poses a significant liability issue. If a worker who has not been approved for a shift is injured, the liability falls on the company, not Spotwork.
